Happy Sunday - Bread and macarons

I did two projects on one sunday afternoon... concurrently... cool?

TangZhong bread.. was thinking to do or not to do...since it requires cooling and proofing, might as well occupied the time with macarons using my newly bought silicon parchment paper.

I think Im the most happy women on earth yesterday.
Macarons got feet ! I almost cannot believe my eyes, is that...is that feet? so short, but it's still feet!. Oh my god.. I almost fainted.
The taste is nice. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Very sweet. I didnt do the filling, nvm. Its nice to eat just like that.

Definitely going to work on it again.. but so sweet. Will I be fatter and fatter?
Forgive me on the uneven shell... didnt thought it will work out..haha

TangZhong 65 deg bread
Will only do this method in future
Very soft even on the second day

July 2011

Its been a tiring month, the workload is so heavy I hardly have time to blog.
I have decrease my bakings, only occasionally when there is request from family, anyhow, its time for me to diet also.

I shall post up some of my bakings up here.
And Oh, I attended a TangZhong baking bread class in De Mas. Dont know the students well, but teacher is nice. Overall, I do enjoy the course

I did do some peach cream puff but the pics are in IPAD, next time I upload again.

One more thing, in less than 2 mths time, I will be going Macau + HK. 1 Oct to 4 Oct to be exact.
But I messed up some of the booking itineray. End up spending more than I should. Cham, stupid me.

I also made mooncake for the first time in my life. I looked into the net and found that Shanghai Mooncake is the easiest to make. And seeing so many bloggers are posting up recipe on mooncakes, my hand itches. Haha

Borneo

Borneo is a nice name.

I went with my sis's and family and mum last weekend. Another short trip, there isn't much things there and I'm glad its a short trip anyway, lol.

A tiring 2 hours drive up to Mt KK but its really worth the time. The mt is soooooo remarkably high and I dont think anyone can imagine how high it can be unless you watch the real one.

The rest of the place dont really attract me. But at least we went Sabah before - Everyone can FLY!

My 31st Birthday

Another birthday, not too bad this time, hubby came home early and we (with Ashley) had a dinner at Fridays. Not too exp but we dont really like western food.
I think it's going to be a long time to our next visit there.

I dont know what birthday cake to make... blueberry cake? I end up serving it to Mr Bin. Not satisfied.
Then came out with a "Not-so" Opera Cake. No joconde. Just plain vanilla sponge layer with coffee fresh cream (not buttercream..haha) and chocolate ganache.

The result ? Good! I'm glad I made this cake my own way, easy and not so common as those sell outside.

By the way, I did drive to Niniq and none of the cake attracts me. And not so cheap too!

Not to forget, my cousin bought me a pcs of Caramel cake from our favourite bakery

woo..melting caramel

My first Cheesecake

After tasting the yummy Oreo cheesecake from Kulai's bakery, me and my colleague found some recipe from the internet and we tried it on the Saturday.
Its actually quite easy and quick to do as its a non bake cheesecake
The next time, I must remember to lesser the icing sugar and also dont do too high. Don't like too many mousse.
8"

Nice, will do it again.

Opera Cake

Wendy called me up on Wednesday abt this class, I say ok as I think its more interesting to go with someone you know for a long duration class.
The class is nice, teacher nice, but drag a bit...Class started at 2.30pm (suppose 2pm) and ended at 6.45pm
Cake is nice... paid RM85 for the class, a bit steep

The New Senai-Desaru Highway in use!

I almost went to De Mas baking class on Sunday 11am, last minute hubby persuaded me to go elsewhere. I was hesitating also as I really dont want to spend the whole Sunday in the baking class. But the bread making is something I am looking forward to too.
At last, I went Desaru. Using the new highway. It was abt 45 mins drive... not so enjoyable as there was one lane at some points and the q was long at the toll station. Were at the beach for only less than 1 hour, weather was really hot my goodness! Then reach JB at about 2pm
One lane in highway?!?

Nice!

Reach home, Ashley sleeping, I am rather free, hubby say would long for some butter cake. Although I feel sleepy but still I went ahead and bake a marble cake. You know why I am looking forward baking a normal marble cake?
This is so as I bought a dark cocoa powder in De Mas at 250g @ RM5.90. The color I consider as black, so add only some dark color cocoa powder mix with the normal cocoa powder. The color is beautiful! I am glad I bought it

Almond Cookies in June 2011

Yes, it sounds like CNY but its only June 2011. It was about 4.30pm , half an hour before I end my job, I was quickly browsing thru some bookmarked website. I came across this recipe of Almond cookies. The pic was really tempting me and I checked the recipe, and YES! I got all the ingredients back home. But one thing lack, where can I get the cup case? It require very small one, my house cup case all are cupcake / muffin size. Or should I just bake it naked? But it does look nicer with the case.

Checked with my colleague and she mention I can get it at the nearby store (Econsave Senai). I think it probably have too, so after work, I dashed to the store and luckily I managed to find 200 pcs at RM2.20.  Really cheap. And so, picked up Ashley and speeding back to house and started with the baking.

The ingredients are straightforward and easy. There's hardly any bowl / tray / utensils to wash.
Ashley just love playing with the cases... :(

The cookies were really crunchy and nice. Next time will add in some almond essense and reduce the icing sugar 10g.

DIY Dulce De Leche

Before making it, I thought it will be very nice. But the taste is still very much like sweetened condensed milk. Does the real Dulce de leche taste like this too?
I asked for my S'pore colleague's help, Jane to help purchased 2 cans of Milkmaid condensed milk. I got it the next day and at the same night, i made it.
Spend 3 hours boiling it, worrying it might burst at the same time :)
At about 2.5 hours, my gas finished, and I just let it dipped in the hot water for another half an  hour. The color was really nice. I forgot to take a pic of the liquid after can opened.
Here is the pic of the process

Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache

Makes a batch of cupcakes for DH's colleagues. I cheated a bit, I used Pilsbury's cake mix to make the cupcakes, lol.
I still find Betty Crocker's one better but its much harder to find Betty's products in shelves here. Next time will still go back to Betty's. This is my first time doing the rose swirl. I am quite satisfied with the result (use Wilton 2D to get the rose swirl)
Hope to get good response from DH's colleagues.

Mini Milk Bun

I am still not good with bread. Guess it has to do with the time as well. I started preparing after I reached home at about 6.30pm.. this bread needed extra time compare to the normal bread
Nevertheless, I still go ahead with shorter proofing and kneading. The bread is only so so... add with some blueberry jam. The next day there is a yeast smell , I just served it to Mr Bin.

Bags

My friends went Europe and I got the opportunity to get some bags with cheaper price.
But burn a big hole in my pocket.
I have to be thrifty from now on.

Apple Yogurt Cake

A recipe from Alex Goh from his book . The cake is soft, probably due to the 120g yogurt. Apple was too soft till I can barely notice there is actually apple cubes inside.
Can even do without it the next time if you dont have apples at home.

Nevertheless, the cake is has strong buttery smell (the kind of butter cake I like) with the use of 250g SCS Butter. Good choice of butter!

Yield a 9" cake - but a bit short

Chocolate Bottom Banana Muffin

Saw the frenzy on this recipe and immediately put this on my top to-do-list. I myself dont like any bake that has to do with banana but still go ahead with the bake.

The cake itself is easy to make. I took a pcs to try and still do not like banana in cake.
Put into 10 cupcakes and a small loaf. Cupcakes for colleagues and small loaf for me and family.

If other ppl wish to eat, I will make again. Or else, I won't be baking it for my own consumption.
